In 2021, CES went entirely digital, which couldn’t match the feel of the in person experience. In 2022, CES tried a hybrid approach of online and in-person to a lukewarm revival of sorts. The exhibitor participation and guest attendance was sparce due to continued concerns over COVID and the Omicron variant. That left fewer exhibitors participating and a drop in attendees to see them. However, in 2023, it appears as though CES will return to its pre-COVID glory with a full list of exhibitors back in person so attendees can once again see and experience the latest in technology in person. There are a lot of people that like to keep all their digital content in the cloud and they think just because they paid for it, the 3rd party they purchased it from will keep it for them forever. Sony, among other companies, recently proved that’s not the case. Earlier this year, Sony put out an announcement, basically stating that due to licensing agreements with content providers, some previously purchased Studio Canal content will be removed from the customer’s video library. Those customers were not offered refunds or anything other than an apology for the inconvenience.

This further strengthens the argument for owning a physical copy of the movies and music that you really enjoy and would be devastated if the title was no longer available. When it comes to streaming platforms and cloud storage, the user is at the whim of the storage facilitator. If that company gets in a dispute with the content owner, as it appears in this case with Sony, your content could be removed. If the cloud storage provider simply decides they need more space and offline content that hasn’t been seen in a while, or worst yet, that cloud storage supplier goes bankrupt or exits the industry for a better opportunity, all the content they possess, could simply disappear from your stored files.

With physical storage items, like optical discs, especially Blu-ray, means it’s possible to keep that content safe and available at all times, when you need them. Storing Ultra Hi-Def 4K content on Blu-ray means that content will always be available when you want to watch them. Plus, the archival life of optical discs is typically between 50 to 100 years at least.

If you care about the movies you want to keep in your library, it’s advisable to at least keep a copy on optical disc for safe keeping, so that if or when the digital version vanishes, you will always have the original.

Recently I had a situation where the iXflash was the perfect solution for a typical issue many of us face. We sell a products on Amazon, and from time to time, a customer will post a question about those products. As the manufacturer, we like to answer those questions quickly and concisely, especially if we can use a quick video to convey the message. We had an inquiry as to how tall one of our duplicators were. I took out a tape measure and took a very short video measuring the duplicator that I intended to use to answer the question on Amazon. Of course, like most people, I used my cell phone to take the video.

Now that I took the video, I needed to transfer to my work desktop computer so that I could load onto Amazon to answer the customer question. The video was very short in duration, but because everything is filmed in hi-def or 4K, it still made the file size too big for me to email to myself. Windows media player had moved away from its native CD ripping and playback capabilities, especially after nearly all desktop and laptop computers removed physical optical disc drives (ODD’s) from their hardware. This year, with the release of Microsoft’s Window’s 11 Build 25158, they reintroduced a feature in Media Player that used to be a staple in the past, CD ripping. This new CD ripping feature allows the user to create not only MP3 files, but also WMA, FLAC, ALAC, or the default setting AAC format. This is great news for all audiophiles that want to convert their CD’s to audio files, which they can then load to their phones or just to have all their music on a hard drive in one place.

The only problem is that even though Windows brought back its music ripping feature, todays computers typically still don’t offer default optical disc drives anymore. For those IT professionals out there, the HDDMini is the perfect companion to backup or help save a hard drive from a persons computer. Another testimonial of personal experience using the iXflash Cube. I recently took a long overdue vacation with the family in a beautiful tropical location. Like millions of other people, my iPhone doubles as my camera, especially when I’m traveling.
