Sony 128GB

Stored digital content and the exceptionally Ultra Hi-Def 4K video are pushing the boundaries of storage capacities and our computer hard drives. Even small businesses are forced to increase their server capacities to accommodate the exponentially increasing digital content. However, not all that content needs to be accessed on demand all the time. To reduce costs and ensure proper safety of all content, it’s important to offload the cold storage data onto a safe and easily recallable digital source, like optical discs. The problem is that standard optical disc capacity is too limited to meet the demands of this increased digital content, even using single or double layer Blu-ray media. Which is why Vinpower is proud to offer the exceptional quad layer Sony BD-R XL 128GB recordable media. With the greater capacity, the Sony 128GB BD-R XL discs allow users to hold more than 5 times extra content than a standard Blu-ray disc and over 25 times more than a standard recordable DVD±R disc. Plus with the exceptional long life archival capability, these discs are the perfect solution for archiving all your digital content for long term safe storage.

In addition to archival benefits, those that make movies in the latest UHD 4K format recognize the incredible amount of storage needed for such high definition quality. Filming in 4K often means that a typical 2 hour movie could have a digital capacity exceeding the storage space of a typical recordable Blu-ray media. Through in the extras and you’re way over the capacity of most single discs storage capacity. Take it a step further and maybe you want to record an entire series of a program onto 1 disc, not generally possible without the extra capacity provided with the 128GB BD-R XL media. Whether you are looking to archive data or film in Ultra Hi-Def 4K, the Sony 128GB BD-R XL recordable media is the perfect solution for your needs.

The 128GB BD-R XL discs are not readily available outside Japan, which is why Vinpower decided to partner with Sony to make these discs more widely available globally.

Sony will Release the World’s First 4-layer 128GB BD-R XL Disc, which Vinpower’s BDXL Blu-ray duplicators support

128GB BDXL disc

The awareness of quad layer BDXL discs that can copy up to 128GB has been prevalent for years now, so much so that everyone thought the media was already available. In actuality, only the specification for the 4-layer 128GB optical disc existed. No one had actually produced the media for the open market until Sony recently announced their first release scheduled for November 2018. Only the tri-layer 100GB BDXL was readily available to this point. Sony surged ahead and will be the first to commercially offer the true quad-layer 128GB BDXL writable discs.

The positive is that Vinpower’s BDXL Blu-ray duplicators (SharkBlu XL models), will be able to write onto those discs without an issue. If you want to be an early adoptor and use the 128GB BDXL discs, then make sure you use the duplicators that have proven themselves time and again to be the most reliable duplicators on the market.

Sony and others are dedicated to making a big push at dominating the archival cold storage market with optical discs.

sony-cold-storage.jpg

On previous email blasts, we spoke about how Sony and Panasonic, amongst others, are focusing heavily in the data archival market using optical disc cartridges and developing optical discs with massive storage capacity. A recent article in Fortune further emphasizes this point. In the article, it discussed how Sony has acquired a startup company that was created by a former Facebook executive for the sole purpose of archiving cold data for easy storage and retrieval offline.

The impact of this acquisition is huge as it relates to data storage, the life expectancy for optical discs, and how cold data will be maintained and stored in the future. Just by its name, “cold data” it’s obvious that content is not something that will need to be recalled frequently or even sparingly. Typically its data that needs to be saved, but is rarely accessed and certainly doesn’t need to be accessed within fractions of a second. So why waste valuable server storage, expensive energy, or IT time to maintain this data? There is no reason, and the cold data becomes a drain on servers, making the hot data become bogged down and more costly to maintain.

The answer to how cold data should be handled is to store this content offline, on optical discs. When you need to recall it, simply pull up the optical disc it’s stored on through an intricate indexing system that can be recalled in seconds and keep it all offline. That way the data is safe, it’s not syphoning energy as it would on a server, and it frees up a tremendous amount of space for more critical data.

So when you wonder how long will optical discs remain relevant? Apparently major companies like Sony are betting it will be a very long time!

When you want the best Optical Discs for any format or printable surface, that answer is clear as well, contact Vinpower Digital. Vinpower offers optical media for all markets, formats, and price points with top quality and reliability. Vinpower will supply the enhanced Sony Optiarc Duplication CB model writer drive for at least the next 3 years.

sony-optiarc-cb-drive-continued.jpg

Vinpower has worked closely with Sony Optiarc to develop the enhanced duplication CB drive series, which include many exceptional features such as DVD+R DL Overburn, Enhanced Recording Stabilization Control, Tray Extension for autoloaders, Secure Media Speed Stability, and so much more. The CB drive has become the drive of choice for those that need these specialized features, as well as those that want to ensure a superior burned product with fewer failures, and a longer life span compared to other traditional DVD drives.

Recently, it was announced that Sony Optiarc was shutting down and will no longer manufacturer or supply any ODD recording drives after December 31, 2012. This was a devastating blow to the duplication market, which had come to rely on these drives for their platform and duplication needs.

Fortunately, because of the close relationship Vinpower developed with Sony, Vinpower will be able to continue supplying the enhanced duplication version CB drives for at least the next 3 years from January 2013 through 2015.

So if you have been using the Sony drive and felt uncertain about what to use next or if you are looking for a better writer drive option, contact Vinpower today to discuss the opportunities to secure the CB drive.

What makes the Sony –CB drives the preferred writer drive for the duplication market?

cb-series-drives.jpg

Vinpower has been spreading the news that the specially enhanced DVD/CD Sony Optiarc CB writer drives are better than other models for multi-drive duplication. Many of you may wonder, how we can make this claim, as just looking at the specs, all DVD/CD writer drives look the same.

The critical difference lies in both the quality of the components used to manufacture the drive and the proper calibration of these elements specifically for the duplication market. To write to a disc, a drive will use a laser diode that burns digital data onto the reflective side of the disc. Of course, the laser will generate heat and for every degree increase in the temperature, the drive will need to recalibrate the laser diode as to how strong the laser needs to be to write the data onto the disc. The wider the variance in temperature variance, the lower the ultimate burn quality will be.

Now with most end users that burn a discs every once in a while, the drive will not heat up enough to make a noticeable difference. However, when it comes to those that frequently need to duplicate discs in large quantities through multi-drive duplication towers, it will make a huge difference. Most standard drives base their burning principals on typical PC usage, so they can reduce costs by not fine-tuning the laser calibration as stringently. This reduction is the attention to detail is recognizable by duplicating a large number of discs and comparing the disc burned 1st to one of the final discs burned and you’ll find multiple irregularities between the two.

In the case of the Sony CB drives, Vinpower worked with Sony to determine the absolute best calibration timing and variance so that every duplicated disc will identical in quality and appearance. That is why Vinpower uses the Sony CB drive exclusively for their CD/DVD duplicators.

Sony to continue using optical discs for PLayStation

From a report in the Wall Street Journal:
Sony won’t use download-only model for the next PlayStation
“An optical disc drive will be included in the next-generation PlayStation console being introduced next year, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter. Sony reportedly looked at making the next console a download-only machine but decided that Internet connections around the world are still too inconsistent to justify a move away from consoles that accept game discs.”

As we have continued to mention, the global and even national internet infrastructure is not ready to accommodate the interest of those looking to convert fully to an online model. Optical Discs will still have a significant future facilitating the dissemination of digital content, albeit video, games, data, etc.

Vinpower Digital announces they have officially certified the Sony Optiarc 5280-CB Writer Drive for use within its full duplicator line.

Vinpower Digital announced that they have officially certified the specially enhanced Sony Optiarc 5280-CB drive for use within its series of duplicators and duplicator controllers. Vinpower helped Sony Optiarc develop the CB series of drives, which were created to improve the burning performance and results for mass duplication in a simultaneous multi-drive recording environment. Vinpower officially adopted the drives in 2005 and many prominent manufacturers of duplication equipment followed them over the years.

The 5280-CB drive boasts many advantages to the standard half height burner drives, including Sony Optiarc’s own standard model 7480-OB and 5280-OB burner drives in the following ways:

Better Burning Quality:
• Secure Media Speed Stability – Ensures that media duplication speed does not exceed encoded maximum rates to provide better burning control and virtually eliminates bad burns.
• Enhanced Recording Stabilization Control – Ensures all drives in a single duplication environment burn uniformly to avoid disproportionate speed fluctuations, which lead either to failed discs or less compatible completed discs.
• DVD+R DL Overburn – Can extend the listed capacity from 8.5GB up to 8.7GB* to allow the user to capture more content on a single DVD+R DL disc.
• Stable Recording Control – The drives have an extensive database of media specs and are better able to communicate and convey these details while burning the disc(s) at ultimate speed.

Greater Compatibility with blank media and media players:
• Stable burning throughout – Provides consistent and reliable burning of any file type for the duration of the duplication progress to ensure the recorded media has far greater reliability of playback or that the discs will successfully copy to begin with.
• Enhanced Compatibility for DVD+R media – Ensuring greater compatibility with DVD Players
• Enhanced CD-R Duplication – Limits potential distortion in CD-R audio duplication
• Enhanced Compatibility for CD+G media – Ensuring greater compatibility with Karaoke players
• Supports 99 minute CD-R – Allows CD-R media to be over-burned effectively to 99 minutes

Drives Last Longer:
• Built using sturdier components – Compared to alternative drives, this model was built using the true Japanese design and parts lists for a stronger and more reliable system.
• Less Wear and Tear – since there are fewer bad burns, the system is able to complete its jobs in less burns meaning a prolonged life for the drives themselves due to less use
• Industrial tray gears & pulleys – provides a more stable disc loading tray for a longer life cycle (1 cycle equals 1 tray extend from and then return into the drive)
• Enhanced Error Reporting – Provides greater details as to the cause of any potential duplication failure during the Lead-In

Works with Robotic Duplication Equipment:
• Accurate Tray Extension – Provides reliable consistent tray extension for Robotic Duplication System

The 5280-CB drive is immediately available and can be shipped anywhere in the world. Contact Vinpower for more details in regards to the benefits and capabilities of this drive.

Vinpower Digital duplicators provide top quality CD-R duplication using the special Sony Duplication drives.

Although many may think that CD duplication is dead or a dying business sector, our findings show that there’s still a very healthy market that is becoming more and more ignored. Cd duplication, in particular audio CD duplication can be tricky and is the media or the drives are not of certain quality, the recorded discs could come out with audible distortions or other issues that make the CD recordings pointless and discouraging those still working to support the customer base.

We at Vinpower care about every segment of duplication from CD to BDXL and we don’t feel that customers should compromise in their efforts to burn CD audio material.

That’s why Vinpower teamed up with Sony to source a unique DVD-RW writer drive that was made especially for the duplication market and offers exquisite CD duplication as well as DVD. Vinpower has been building these manual tower and automated duplication equipment installed with the Sony Optiarc brand of burners for many years ensuring high quality and reliability.

Sub $200 Blu-ray reader in the plans for Sony

As the driving force behind Blu-ray disc (BD) technology for optical discs and drives, Sony has announced its plans for a Blu-ray reader (no burning capabilities) to retail for less than $200. With the increased size and clarity of computer monitors, more people are watching movies and even television through their computers. In fact, the laptop is fast becoming the business travelers’ portable entertainment system.

Even though prices are dropping on BD players, including the Sony PlayStation 3 and optical writer drives, they still retail in the neighborhood of $500 plus. So introducing a BD reader at less than $200 gives anyone with a HD computer monitor the ability to save over 50% off the cost of traditional BD players.

This is also big news for the duplicator field as in most manual tower CD and DVD duplicators, they are equipped with 1 reader only drive and multiple writer drives. The reason being is that the reader is typically much less expensive than the writer drives. In addition, having a separate drive devoted to reading only, reduces the wear and tear on the writer drives. Up to this point, there have only been BD writer drives on the market so all BD duplicators required a writer drive to act as a reader for at least one run. That increases the overall cost and lowers the productivity for BD duplicators if a drive is being tied up as a reader instead of being able to make copies. By having a low cost BD reader, it makes the BD duplicator far more efficient and prolongs the BD writer drives lifespan while keeping the unit in a respectable price range.

As for HD DVD, they still have yet to introduce a reader or writer drive for the duplication market. Even though there are prototypes on display at various CE trade shows, none have hit the market or are slated to be released within 2007. This is putting the HD DVD camp farther and farther behind the BD camp in terms of reaching the independent video market and the highly lucrative medical, education and financial field for data storage. Maybe that’s not the markets they are courting at this time, but in the end, they will be big factors in who wins the format war.
